Prosperity
Prosperity is a sculpture that comments on economic inequality through excessiveness and the repurposing of second-hand materials. Its rigid structure and design resemble examples of modern high fashion; the fabric sports rough edges and various textures, displaying the raw materiality and patchwork of the thrifted fabrics. Additionally, some inspiration has been taken from the natural world, with the name ‘Prosperity’ relating to abundance and bountifulness. The draped fabric is meant to represent a river; the fluidity and movement starkly contrast with the rest of the dress. These make for an interesting juxtaposition of elements. The faux flowers add interesting textures and an overall more pleasing visual.
